Maria Kontos MBACP

My Counselling Style

My training and practice is an integrative and relational approach to counselling and psychotherapy. Integrative therapy is a combined approach to psychotherapy that brings together different elements of specific therapies. I work by tailoring each session to suit each individual needs and personal circumstances, introducing various modalities to work with.

MY WORK

I am here to help you create positive change in your life.

I am here to help you explore your distressing feelings and create positive change in your life. I provide a safe, confidential, non judgmental environment to work through any difficulties you may be experiencing that aims to help you feel heard, acknowledged and understood. Guiding you with empathy and compassion to provide you with the insights you need to help explore your emotions.

Throughout our lives we all experience difficulties and challenges. Individuals may wish to change aspects of themselves they are not happy about and see counselling as an opportunity for self-development. Counselling can be an extremely powerful tool to help us become more aware of who we are and gain a better understanding about our relationships with others and the situations we find ourselves in. It can help you figure out what’s wrong and troubling you, if you are experiencing feelings and behaviours you are unsure of and where they are coming from.

Once we bring to light the root of the problem, you will be free to find a newer, more positive outlook on your past, present and future. This will result in improved relationships, greater self-esteem and awareness and a consideration of different life choices. You will also gain the tools to help you deal with any obstacle that comes your way. Working at your pace together we can find a way forward so that you can lead a more satisfying and fulfilling life.

BEREAVEMENT COUNSELLING

“Something very beautiful happens to people when their world has fallen apart: a nobility, a higher intelligence emerges at just the point when our knees hit the floor.” Marianne Williamson

We sadly experience trauma and loss which can bring a lot of difficult emotions. Grief is a natural process, but sometimes the emotional impact can be overwhelming and have a great affect on relationships, past attachments and life in general. For individuals coping with loss and grief, I believe their focus does not have to be on letting go or moving on, as instead working towards adjusting to and accommodating their loss and grief within their lives can help the process of going forward.

I have a special interest in working with both individuals and couples with the loss of stillborn, premature babies, single and multiple pregnancy loss supporting them through their trauma. Multiple miscarriages, TFMR, pregnancy anxiety, premature babies. Supporting parents with babies that are in NICU.

I feel that no parent should ever lose a child at any age but sadly this happens too often. A parents grief for their child never ends, it continues with them on their journey in life.
